The warm weather has us sprinting around the farm trying to do all of the projects at the same time. We’re sneaking up on our sixth month living on the farm. While it’s nice to scratch the project itch, we really don’t have the momentum we thought we’d have on the house renovation.

Food for thought – if you think you’re going to buy a house, renovate it while living in the basement and move in around the six-month mark – you are wrong. That’s not how it’s going to shake out – especially not if there is a pandemic involved.

Despite the chaos in our living situation – we’re still making awesome things happen. So much so, in fact, that I’ve completely failed to document all the exciting happenings over the last couple of weeks.

  • We upgraded the already awesome chicken coop with a rooftop strawberry patch. Not kidding.
  • Our third full mow of all 7-8 acres of the front and back yards was finished last week and – woof – it’s intense. We’re getting way more efficient at it. And, we’ve quickly learned what the mower can and can’t do. All in all – we think we have about 6-8 hours of mowing to plan for every week or so.
  • A significant portion of the North garden is planted. It’s epic and growing everyday. The South garden, however, is barely started. We have some catch up to do.
  • All of our sprouts, plants, bulbs, seeds, trees, etc. have made it to Mother’s Day. In our planting zone, this means we’ve made past the final freeze and everything goes. Not that we were really holding anything back – but it’s officially officially the time to get it all in the ground!
  • My Hostas are looking great.
  • The cut flower garden is also next up. The seedlings in the greenhouse have been looking great. I also had some Spring planting bulbs arrive that need to go in likenow.
  • Our brilliant Crabapple trees bloomed the prettiest fuchsia this year – and that’s now faded to green. I’ve been beyond thrilled with all of the color in our trees. Fall is going to be fun!
  • Our Irises are finally blooming – and in abundance! Rich blues, purples and cream colors are everywhere around the driveway. Bonus points: some of these are going to need to be relocated this summer. I cannot wait to spread more of these all around. They’re stunning.
  • We’re feeding the fishes like crazy. New favorite pasttime.
