A New Herd for the Farm

Farmer Crossley has been on a mission to bring a whole herd of female goats to the farm. This week, he finally made good on his goal.

Some stunning new ladies (possibly a couple that are pregnant!) made their way to the holding pen this week. All new animals on the farm spend a few days in quarantine so we can watch them for any strange behaviors or signs of illness. After a few days in quarantine, the whole crew was moved to the Goat Grove to settle into their new space.

One rambunctious mama gave Aaron a run for his money.

Once in the Grove, she decided she’d rather do more exploring. She jumped the electric fence and took off for a jaunt through the back yard. Not one to be bossed around by a goat, Aaron went for a chase and spent a good chunk of time shouting and waving his arms at her trying to scare her back in.

Isai and I watched the play-by-play from the living room window. Just when it seemed like all hope would be lost on getting her back into the Grove, a half dozen of the other goats followed her lead and took off over the fence and on a dead sprint through the yard as well. We’ve never laughed so hard.

Turns out, a bucket of grain really does work wonders. All were safely back in the Grove by dusk.
