It’s birthday time on the farm and, once again, our amazing family gathered under the giant Sycamore tree to wish our dude a very happy year.
Today, Isai turned 2. He’s had a big year – perfecting his sprint, becoming a connoisseur of mac and cheese, making his preference of the outdoors known and stepping into his roll as the world’s big brother. His unmatched energy, confidence and stubborn personality is born straight out of qualities Aaron and I share from our own childhoods. Everyday – he has something new to say, do and show us. It’s genuinely incredible to see him grow and learn.
The words I have for these monumental days never seem to match the explosion of pride, joy and hope I have in my heart for this kid. He is so loved – not just by Aaron and I, but by all of his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He has brought some amazing happiness into all of our lives and it’s wonderful to see days like today when we all celebrate him.
Isai’s morning started with a living room full of balloons (a new favorite apparently) and a trip to Big Biscuit for birthday breakfast. We picked up lunch for the family (sandwich sliders, veggies, fruit and potato salad), then headed home to set up for the party. While Isai and Elin slept, we tied balloons to the deck and set up tables with bright plastic table covers outside. Lawn chairs dotted the shady space under the Sycamore. Despite some new patio furniture to enjoy – it seems to be our family’s habit to hang out in the grass and shade.
Everyone arrived early in the afternoon to share lunch, open gifts and enjoy some construction site cake. We lit sparklers that flared over the top of a #2 candle. Isai didn’t have much reaction to the fireworks, but absolutely loved the toys that topped his dessert. We couldn’t get them off fast enough. Bonus points that he got to lick them clean as he played.
The rest of the casual afternoon was spent chit-chatting with our family who hasn’t been able to gather nearly often enough with all of the pandemic concerns. The fresh air of the farm, comfy start to Fall, nice breeze and perfect shade is hard to leave, honestly. Everyone took turns rolling through the farm on the side-by-side until Isai inevitably fell asleep riding with cousins.
Our guy was completely exhausted and held on until the very last drop of energy faded away. We’re grateful for so many wonderful people in his life as well as a few minutes of rest before he wakes for more action.
Happy 2nd birthday, Isai. You are such an amazing kid. Dada and I can’t wait to show you the world and enjoy all the adventures we have ahead with you.
