We have 12 new goats. That’s 25 goats total.
If it wasn’t obvious before, it’s painfully obvious now that we don’t actually have the barn space to shuffle this many pregnant goats at one time. Our big aspirations for more stalls, more pens and – honestly – just an entirely new barn for the critters is going to take way more time than we have at the moment. So, Aaron made quick work of an expansion to the existing outdoor pen at the pole barn.
With a few chainlink panels, he was able to give our new herd and the mamas more outdoor space for more sunshine and running room. They also gained a new hay holder of some type that I can only assume is going to make eating hay way more exciting.
While it wasn’t what I hoped for (I’m on Team Hide-All-Fencing-So-It-Doesn’t-Clutter-My-VIEWS) – I do have to admit that it looks nice. It’s also great that our new baby goat family won’t be quite so crammed in the pole barn. Even I can admit, this is an awesome upgrade for the limited time we have to solve our space issues.
With any luck, the mamas and babies will head to the Goat Grove soon. Once they’re out, we’ll have a bit of an easier time getting the pole barn upgrade for a multi-pen scenario for the future.
