A week ago, Aaron, my brother Chris and my cousin Bryce drove to Freeburg, Missouri, to visit my aunt and uncle – the Hilkemeyers. We’d spent a few weeks online shopping for side-by-side utility vehicles for the farm. Turns out, having family in the Honda business makes for a pretty sweet deal. They made the four-hour drive to the center of the state to pick up two Honda Pioneer 1000-5s.
Aaron has been like a kid in a candy shop ever since.
It was impossible to know what we had when they arrived home after midnight. The next morning, though, we were on the side-by-side at sunrise and zooming around the pastures with the pups chasing behind.
Since then, we’ve gone on rides down the dirt roads, over to Lake Dabinawa, zipped between the house and tool shed, and even hit some trails with friends. It’s been epic.
All along the way, we’re loving the pop-up back seats that let us bring friends and family along. Or, they pop down so we can haul tools and dogs. Cooper, Sahara and Ogi are all getting their fair share of use out of the thing. And, naturally, Isai thinks its truly the best for snoozing.
We’ve been enjoying it way too much to remember to take photos while we’re out. The toughest parts are dodging the dust and bug splatters. The roof and windshield will come soon – and that will make all the difference. Until then, we’ll just keep our mouths closed while we cruise.
