A Rock Box for Isai

Our little guy love digging. His recent obsessions with all things that dig is almost guaranteed to have been inspired by his cousins. Let’s be real, though – Grandpa really went above and beyond to enable this madness. Today, Isai’s Christmas gift made a warm-weather appearance in its new spot under the trees near the barn: his rock box.

“What is a rock box?” You’re probably wondering. My brother Chris and I often joke about his rock box as a child. Living on a farm, you don’t have sandboxes. There are far too many critters ready to use it as a litter box. Instead, rocks offer a fun, clean(er) alternative. Except that ours was full of sharp gravel and, despite still being a ton of fun, it was extremely painful to be in for too terribly long.

For Isai’s box, we took a slightly different approach. Grandpa found him an awesome sandbox frame with seats on the edges. Then, filled it with soft, rounded pea gravel. The result is an amazing play space that is rocking this kid’s world.

As soon as he saw the box filled with rocks and toys, Isai immediately jumped in and went to work. All that digging is serious business. He spends loads of time pouring rocks between the toys and digging for “treasures” I buried before he jumped in. It’s an awesome spot for us to sit and play in the shade and I’m so excited for the cousins to visit and enjoy it with him.
