Rainy days on the farm always seem to launch a new round of projects. When stuck indoors, we’re a pretty stir-crazy crew. That’s the general story behind how I ended up on a mission to give our laundry room a new look.
We’ve been quietly working on a full home remodel for months. We’re still in planning stages with architects and designers. One thing has become quite clear: it will be a few years before we even begin to touch the basement.
The unfortunate piece of it all is that we’re currently living in the basement while waiting for the upstairs remodel to start. The basement has a little bit of natural light, but not much. While it’s (luckily) finished – I would equate it to living in a studio apartment.
Today, while the rain pours outside, I got at itch to tidy up the laundry area. After cleaning, I looked at everything and realized a bit of paint would change – well – everything.
The floor is a worn out beige-y linoleum with flowers all over. The walls are a couple of other tones of beige. The cabinets are a dark wood and the countertop, while speckled, is also beige.
We purchased a new washer and dryer that are a dark charcoal color when we moved in. They’re built into the wall a bit with tubes and ducts cut at a bajillion weird angles behind them.
A few weeks ago, we were lucky enough to also snag a free upright freezer. It’s white, in near-perfect condition and fits wonderfully in the old refrigerator nook by the cabinets. Before we put it in its place…I could…paint…the walls…
And if I’m going to paint the walls, I might as well paint the cabinets too. And, you know, it’s not all that hard to just go ahead and paint the floor. At that rate, I could just lean over the washer and dryer and give those gnarly ducts a fresh coat too.
I do believe I’m going to restyle a laundry room this month.
