Haunted Shed Party and Pumpkins

Nana’s house is always a pretty special place. Tonight, she surprised us all with a haunted shed party. We planned for a night of chili and pumpkin carving – but when we arrived, the entire shed was dark and decorated for creepy fun.

The kids had a blast playing in her homemade corn crib. This is a fun activity typically reserved for pumpkin patches and agritourism – but she made one just for our babes. With a few bales, a tarp and some borrowed corn from my grandparents’ silo, she created the perfect sensory “sand” box. The kids all loved the feel and had an amazing time digging, pouring and sitting in the corn kernals.

The adults and older kids carved away on pumpkins. We quickly learned that our tots are not all that interested in the process or pulp at the moment – so despite our efforts to get Isai and Elin involved, we ended up doing this one ourselves. It was worth it though. We got all of the cousins and their carvings together for a quick picture and it’s the best. Our little cousin crew looks bigger and bigger every year. I just love them.

Nana also busted out the sugar-filled cookie decorating kits and, naturally, Isai went straight for the frosting. Didn’t I say this whole thing was kind of the best? She thought of everything for these kids.

We went home with full bellies, plenty of sugar and all of the fun we could have handled. The kids slept hard and, once again, we had a perfect little Fall evening getting ready for the holidays ahead.
