Last year, Aaron gave me a fainting goat for my birthday. Honestly, it’s one of the most hilarious and amazing gifts I’ve ever received. That is – until this gem of an early birthday gift.
While roaming the Goat Grove, Penny 2Cents delivered the farm’s very first fainter baby. He’s a sweet little white thing with a dark stripe down his back. We’re pretty sure he’s the son of Gruff and was born as another winter storm moved in – so, I named his Flurry.
We had a fun little chase while trying to gather Penny and Flurry into the side-by-side so they could be moved to warmer shelter. Once in the ride, they snuggle into Aaron and I as we cruised through the pasture.
As we rolled by the fence surrounding the Goat Grove, I caught a glimpse of Denali out of the corner of my eye. She had heard the commotion of us catching Penny and came to the grove in her defense.
So cool to see our guardians in action.
Denali followed the side-by-side all the way to the barn. Even more impressive – Kili was waiting on the hill just above the grove to intercept whatever her sister managed to chase out. She picked up the herding as we got closer and, together, the two girls ushered us across the yard.
Penny and Flurry made themselves at home in the pole barn with the rest of the herd mommas. We’ll keep an eye on them to make sure everyone integrates together again well. The pole barn is an increasingly tight space so adding more stressed mamas to the mix can make things a little tough. Pending that – these two will hang out for some special treatment with everyone else for a couple of weeks until we hit some consistently warmer weather to get back into the grove.
